York City are delighted to announce the signing of forward Dipo Akinyemi from Derry City, subject to international clearance.
The 29-year-old returns to the LNER Community Stadium after spending two years with the Minstermen between 2023 and 2025.
Akinyemi initially joined the club from Ayr United and set the tone quickly, striking home our opening goal of the 2023/24 National League season. His scoring form continued throughout, with the fans’ favourite also netting our final goal of that campaign.
He finished the season with 15 goals to his name, picking up the Keith Walwyn Memorial Golden Boot as City secured their fifth-tier status.
The striker also played his part in helping the Minstermen to a second-place finish and play-off campaign in 2025, before departing for Derry.
He got off to an impressive start in the League of Ireland Premier Division, registering three goals and two assists in his first seven appearances. An injury curtailed his momentum during the latter stages of the campaign, but he returned to feature regularly this season, scoring three in 17 appearances.
Prior to joining York for the first time, Akinyemi enjoyed a prolific spell with Ayr, scoring 24 goals and notching 11 assists. That saw him finish as the Scottish Championship’s top scorer and earn the division’s Player of the Season award.
Beginning his career with Potters Bar Town and Stevenage, he would later go on to feature for Dulwich Hamlet, Welling United, and a number of other clubs across non-league.
Welcome back, Dipo!
Subject to international clearance, EFL, and FA approval.
