Adam Crookes and Leone Gravata visit Refugee Action York

On Monday evening, York City first team players Adam Crookes and Leone Gravata visited Refugee Action York to learn more about the sessions provided by the charity, and those in our community who need and use it.

The lads spoke with attendees on the day to find out more on their stories, as well as about RAY, also also engaged in various activities across the evening including darts, FIFA and snooker.

Formed in 2002, RAY works with refugees, asylum seekers and migrants from within and around the City of York, providing a safe meeting point where people can seek information and support, learn new skills and languages and form lasting friendships. Through this, they hope to empower individuals to assist them in rebuilding their lives.

Winger Maz Kouhyar has twice given up his free time to visit RAY, providing hit sessions with those who tap into the charity’s work.

Speaking on the importance of the visit, and getting out in the community, defender Adam Crookes said: “It’s massive. We all play for the club, and play for the badge, and being out in the community around that is really important.

“It helps us buy into the city, as well as the city buying into us. If we’re together as one, as a city, that can only be a benefit for us.”

Winger Leone Gravata also said: “It was really good coming out into the community and seeing all the different people, and speaking to people and seeing what they do. It’s a different aspect to life.”
