Last week, representatives of the club, the Supporters Trust and the family of Tom Mitchell were invited down by Persimmon to the site of the club’s former home, Bootham Crescent, for the unveiling of the first house plaque at the site.
Tom Mitchell House is the first to have been completed on the site, with the Jackson, Sherrington and Lockie houses all under construction.
We are pleased to say that work on the memorial garden, which will commemorate and hold the history of the site forever, has already begun. This garden will contain artefacts from the stadium, as well as embedding it into nature and its surrounding area. We will look forward to showing supporters the work on this once it is appropriate to do so.
The club, with help from the Supporters’ Trust, as well as former Director Ian McAndrew, who has been instrumental in the project, along with Persimmon, have worked tirelessly on various blueprints and ideas to help showcase history with the site’s new look. We can confirm that new variations to the site, once completed, will include three information boards which will help tell the history of Bootham Crescent. One half of the old centre circle will be engraved in stone paving, which will be surrounded by a grass area, along with a flagpole bearing the club badge which will be located at the site’s entrance. These are in addition to street, path and house names honouring those who have played a significant role in the club’s history, as well as the memorial garden.
We would like to thank Persimmon for their invitation and for their constant engagement with us on our former home.
