City to host Sheffield United under the lights in pre-season

York City are pleased to announce that we will host Championship outfit Sheffield United at the LNER Community Stadium this pre-season.

The Blades will make the journey to North Yorkshire on Tuesday 15th July (7pm kick-off), for a clash under the lights.

It will be the second consecutive year playing Chris Wilder’s men, after we were narrowly beaten 2-1 in last season’s pre-season opener.

Tyrese Sinclair put City ahead early on, before the visitors struck either side of half-time.

Sheffield United were ever so close to a Premier League return in 2024/25, after suffering relegation in the previous campaign.

Spending the majority of the season in a title challenge with Leeds United and Burnley, they eventually slipped off and secured a third-place finish, sending them into the play-offs.

A dominant two-legged semi-final triumph over Bristol City earned the Blades a Wembley trip, where they took the lead, but were hit by a sucker punch injury-time winner by Sunderland to deny them promotion.

Ticket details for this fixture will be announced at a later date.

Further pre-season friendlies will be announced in due course.
