York City U18s have an opportunity to qualify for the Second Round of the FA Youth Cup for the first time since 2014 when they take on Stockport Town at Mill Lane on Wednesday night (7pm kick-off).
City began their journey in this season’s edition at Bradford Park Avenue, where we scored six without answer to cruise into the Third Qualifying Round.
We welcomed Boro Rangers a couple of weeks ago, and took an early lead, which set us on our way to a 5-2 victory, in which Ben Farrar and Michael Kydd both notched a brace.
Our opponents, Stockport Town, started their campaign in the Preliminary Round, beating Warrington Town away with five first-half goals, before putting seven past Southport, Rhys Ferguson netting a hat-trick.
Their Second Round Qualifying tie was slightly tighter than the previous ones, but it still went the way of the Lions, who edged past Trafford with a 2-0 scoreline.
The latest challenge for them was a trip to Marine, but once more, it was a success, as Stockport emerged 2-1 winners on Merseyside to set up their fifth straight away match in the competition.
The Minstermen have not surpassed the First Round stage of the FA Youth Cup since a 2014 tie with Crewe Alexandra, so this group of players will be eager to put an end to that fact and continue their cup run in midweek.
