Ash Palmer will officially join the Minstermen on July 1st, after departing Chesterfield.
He leaves the Spireites after three successful years there, in which he played a part in the 2022/23 promotion-winning team.
Prior to that, he was a major cog in the backline of Stockport County’s National League North and National League table-topping sides.
Upon signing for City, we spoke to the 32-year-old, discussing the attraction of York City: “When I found out there was interest from York, it’s something that I was keen to get done.
“It ticked a lot of boxes for me: location, size of the club, fan base, stadium, ambitious owners, and a very good team that had a good year last season.
“I have been lucky enough to be part of something special with my last two clubs and think York has the potential to do the same. I think the club should be in the Football League, and I’m hoping to play my part in doing so.”
Palmer naturally plays in the centre-back position, but has managed to chip in with a few goals as well as keeping the opposition out, and he told us more about himself as a player: “I would say I’m a solid defender who is effective in both boxes.
“I pride myself on defending first and foremost. I am a dedicated professional who wants to work and improve to help my team.”
Finally, we asked our new recruit how he can use his vast experience in these leagues to help York City go one step better this season: “Firstly, I think the team will be in a stronger place this season after missing out on promotion and will have learned valuable lessons and use that to be successful this season.
“Hopefully, I can use my personal experiences I’ve had to help the team through difficult moments in the season and go one better this season.”
