York City Ladies’ season draws to a close this Sunday afternoon, when they fight to defend the CLS Sports North Riding FA Women’s Cup back at the Riverside Stadium, against Middlesbrough U23s (2:30pm kick-off).
The MinsterBelles secured survival in the FA Women’s National League Division One North in their penultimate game of the league campaign, with a superb win away at Stockport County, and now look to end 2024/25 on a real high this weekend.
They return to the Riverside Stadium, home of Middlesbrough FC, almost a year after lifting the silverware in the previous series, beating Thornaby Women 10-0 in the final.
Emily Senior’s side progressed to this season’s final showpiece following emphatic victories against Northallerton Town Women and Redcar Athletic Ladies in the quarter-final and semi-final, respectively, and will face Middlesbrough U23s on Sunday.
Boro come into this game having already claimed a trophy – they won the FAWNL Reserve Northern Division earlier this year.
In this competition, they eased past Redcar Town Ladies in the quarter-final, before coming up against York City Ladies’ Development in the final four, just edging them out.
