Loan Watch | Barnes nets double on Darlo debut

Here’s how our first recap of ‘Loan Watch’, which looks at how some of the players are getting on during loan spells at fellow clubs.  

Finlay Barnes

The former Leiston midfielder recently made a one-month loan deal to National League North side Darlington.

After only joining the North-East club five days ago, the 22-year-old has already gone on to feature twice for the National League North club.

He scored twice on his debut in Darlington’s 3-2 win over Alfreton Town on Saturday, before featuring in their two-all-draw against South Shields on Bank Holiday Monday.

Cedric Main

After joining the Minstermen from Blyth Spartans in the summer, the forward recently re-joined his former club on a loan deal until January 2024.

The Spartans have made a promising start to their season in the sixth tier, currently sitting 5th in the National League North after their opening six games.

Main has started the last two fixtures for the Spartans, which were both held over the Bank Holiday weekend. He featured in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Buxton, before playing ninety-four minutes against Spennymoor Town on Monday.

Sam Sanders

After scoring 3 goals in 24 appearances last season for the Minstermen, the 21-year-old defender spent pre-season with the club, before joining newly-promoted National League South club Truro City on a loan deal until January 2024.

As Truro sit 10th in the National League South, Sanders has so far made six appearances for the club during his loan deal at the Cornish Club.

Jonny Haase

Another young player who is currently out on loan away from the Minstermen is left-back Jonny Haase. After coming through the club’s academy, the former youth-team captain made his first-team debut during the 2021/22 season as a substitute against Southport in the National League North.

Haase joined step-four side Stockton Town on a three-month loan deal at the start of August and so far he’s been part of a squad that currently sits in 6th place in the Northern Premier League East Division.

So far this season, the 19-year-old left back has made two appearances for the club. He started the club’s first two games of the season against Stocksbridge Park Steels and Hebburn Town, before being an unused substitute in their previous four match days.
