Ahead of the new year, we take a look at our final ‘Loan Watch’ article of 2023 to see how some of the Minstermen players are getting on at their respective clubs on loan.

Maison Campbell

Having already played for Marske United and Knaresborough Town this season on loan, Campbell went back out on loan last week to join National League North league leaders Scunthorpe United for a month.

He made his debut for the Iron last night in their 7-2 win over Gainsborough Trinity as he helped Scunthorpe book their place in the semi-finals of the Lincolnshire Senior Cup.

Campbell will compete with former Chesterfield goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons for a starting spot in between the sticks over the Festive period, as Scunthorpe set to take on Buxton and Farsley Celtic twice in the build up to the New Year.

Sam Taylor

Another goalkeeper out on loan is 19-year-old Sam Taylor after recently making an initial 28-day loan move to Northern League Division Two side Billingham Synthonia last week.

The former Huddersfield Town youth teamer joined the Minstermen in the summer and he’s had a positive impact on the U19’s so far this season, keeping three clean sheets in only eight league appearances, having only conceded seven times.

After joining the Northern League Division Two side last week for a month, Taylor made his debut last weekend in a 1-1 draw against FC Hartlepool.

Taylor will look to get some more minutes under his belt for Billingham Synthonia over the Christmas period as they set to take on Sunderland West End, Billingham Town and Blyth Town between now and the end of the calendar year.

Mitch Hancox

The midfielder came off the bench in Hartlepool United’s most recent game as a 60th minute substitute, in their 1-0 defeat at home to National League leaders Chesterfield last Saturday.

Over the Christmas period, Hancox and Hartlepool will take on Oldham Athletic home and away, but their immediate attentions now turn to Saturday’s trip down south to take on Wealdstone.

Finlay Barnes

It’s been an impressive couple of past months for the young midfielder in the National League North after many impressive performances for Scarborough Athletic.

Whilst they only sit three points outside of the playoff positions, Barnes has contributed both goals and assists in recent games for the club.

After spending a short stint on loan at Darlington earlier this season, he moved to the North Yorkshire club at the end of September and has gone on to score two goals so far during his time at the Flamingo Land Stadium, with both of them goals coming in back-to-back games against King’s Lynn Town and Bishop’s Stortford last month.

Barnes will hope to feature for Scarborough this coming weekend as they face a trip to Brackley Town, before facing a double header in only a matter of days against his former club, Darlington, ahead of the new year.

Cedric Main

After joining the Minstermen in the summer, he returned to Blyth Spartans on a loan deal at the back-end of August.

After opening his account for the season from the penalty spot at Boston United in early September, Main has gone on to score six goals for The Spartans, as they sit just above the relegation zone in the National League North.

Over the next week, Main and The Spartans will take on Chester FC a home, before facing two games in just a short space of time against South Shields.

Sam Sanders

A promotion-winning playoff winner with the Minstermen in 2022, Sanders became a regular in the Minstermen defence last season, but he’s still to feature for the club this season after he joined National League South side Truro City on loan in the summer.

Since joining the Southern-based side, Sanders has become a regular in the heart of the Truro City back-line. He most recently scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win at Chelmsford City just over three weeks ago.

Sanders will be hoping to continue to feature for the sixth tier side in their upcoming National League South encounter against Havant and Waterlooville and a quick-fire double encounter against Torquay United in the next week.

Jonny Haase

The former youth-team captain has continued feature in the matchday squad for step-four side Stockton Town during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign.

Haase will hope to appear in Stockton’s upcoming three games in the Northern Premier League East Division against Stocksbridge Park Steels, Consett and Newton Aycliffe over the next ten days as they look to build on a season which sees them currently sit three points clear at the top of the table.
