Match Preview | York City Ladies back in home action against Middlesbrough

After exactly a month without a home game the Minsterbelles return to Haxby Road as they host Middlesbrough this Sunday.

Following last weekend’s return to action victory over Merseyrail, City come into the game with a winning start to 2023 ahead of an exciting meeting with Middlesbrough.

Goals from Holly Findlay and Jess Holder saw City take all three points on the road last weekend in an assured display against the side from Liverpool.

The two sides have already met twice this season in the League and in the League Cup, both games have seen this Sunday’s visitors come out on top.

The first fixture between the sides in the league was a well contested, even affair which saw Boro narrowly edge the game 3-2.

City fought back on more than one occasion; former Middlesbrough forward Fliss Jones equalised before Teagan Sorokan levelled again with an outstanding finish from more than 40-yards out but ultimately the hosts took the three points.

The second meeting saw Boro advance in the League Cup winning 2-0 at the Map Group UK Stadium.

The visitors this weekend come into the game on the back of back-to-back league defeats either side of a County Cup win over Redcar Athletic. A 2-1 defeat away at Chorley was followed by a 0-2 defeat to league leaders Durham Cestria the week before last.

The game kicks off at 2pm, Sunday 5th February at Haxby Road, tickets are £3 for adults and children (3-11) are free, cash only transactions are accepted. If you can’t make the game make sure you keep updated on our Twitter account: @YorkCityLFC.

Our Development team are also at home at Haxby Road against Middlesbrough Devs, a top of the table clash in the North Riding Women’s Premier League in another very exciting game.

Middlesbrough are the only side to blemish the Devs otherwise impeccable record this season.
