Match Preview | York City Ladies vs Hull City Ladies

The Minsterbelles are back at the LNER Community Stadium as they face Hull City Ladies in the FA Women’s National League Division One North on Wednesday night.

York come into the game in good spirits having won three of four games since the turn of the year, a solitary defeat against Newcastle between wins over Merseyrail and Middlesbrough in the league and a win in the County Cup Quarter Final against Middlesbrough Devs.

A third fixture at the stadium this season following a 1-1 draw against Leeds United in October and a 0-3 defeat to Norton in December York will be hoping it’s third time lucky as a busy March starts with an enticing Yorkshire derby under the lights.

The visitors come into the game without a defeat in their last four league games, only one loss in their last five losing in the FA Women’s National League Plate to Stourbridge 1-2.

Hull are currently fifth, three places above York, four points ahead with two games in hand.

The last time the two sides met in the league back in September Hull were 4-2 winners in an entertaining game where on another day York may have come away with more.

Fliss Jones put the Minsterbelles ahead midway through the first half. Hope Knight equalised before Rachael Ackroyd put Hull ahead little after the half hour mark.

Jess Holder levelled the game with a thunderous strike in the 49th minute as momentum swung again.

Ackroyd and Knight both scored again in the second half to help Hull to the three points inflicting York’s first defeat of the season.
