Match Preview | York City vs Barnet

By Brad Saxton | Image by Tom Poole

The Minstermen return to the LNER Community Stadium tomorrow evening when we take on Barnet in the Vanarama National League.

Having secured a crucial three points at the weekend late on, Neal Ardley will be hoping his side can build on Saturday’s performance at Woking, which was in front of the TNT Sports cameras, and secure a second successive victory.

Currently sat in the playoff positions, Barnet head into Tuesday night’s fixture in fine form, as they currently sit in the top-three of the league table.

Dean Brennan’s side will head to North Yorkshire on a six match unbeaten run, one which was extended following Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to FC Halifax Town.

York City vs Barnet will be played on Tuesday 26th September, kicking off at 7:45pm. Here is all the information you need to know ahead of Tuesday’s fixture.

After a spell in Scotland, the former Scotland U19 international also represented the likes of Tamworth, Farsley Celtic and Northwich Victoria later on during his career.

Bookings for hospitality tickets for this fixture have now closed.

Remembering Dave Barton

York City was incredibly saddened to receive the news last week that season ticket holder Dave Barton had sadly passed away whilst on holiday in Scarborough on Monday, 18th September.

Dave was a life-long York City supporter and spent most of his spare time and money following the Minstermen home and away. Dave is an incredibly well-known figure and is loved across York, at work with his railway family at Network Rail, and also at his beloved York City.

The club has actively moved in motion to ensure that a bunch of flowers could be laid at Dave’s season ticket seat at the LNER Community Stadium in the LNER Azuma East Stand on the night, to honour his memory.

We have also invited his family to sit alongside his seat, mum Hazel and sister Suzie, who we hope are comforted immensely during their visit on evening.

A JustGiving page was setup to support Dave’s family too, as well as charitable donations of their choice an option in Dave’s memory. After an initial target of £3,500, the number stands at over £6,000 strong at the time of publish.

Supporters can donate to the JustGiving by scanning the QR code within the programme or by clicking here.

We encourage supporters to join in with a 65th minute applause to honour his memory during the game.

Foundation Fan Zone Stage Music – Sponsored by Jorvik Radio

Red Recluse will be performing in the Fan Zone ahead of kick-off at tomorrow evening’s game at the LNER Community Stadium.

Known as a rock-band, they were only formed in July 2023 and they most recently featured in the ‘Battles of the Bands’ competition at the Fulford Arms, having also previously featured at the 2023 Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta.

Y22 Bus Service

The Y22 Shuttle Bus service, kindly organised by York City Supporters Trust and First York, will be running for this fixture.

The Y22 service runs from two hours before kick-off and after the game until the ground is clear, up to 90 minutes after the full-time whistle. This increases the frequency of buses running between Stonebow in the City Centre and the Monks Cross Park & Ride stop, as well as freeing up capacity on the existing number 9 route.

Fans wishing to use the service will need to purchase the Y22 tickets from the First Bus app, which are priced at:

  • Adult return: £3.50
  • Child/Concessionary return: £2
  • Adult single: £2
  • Child/Concessionary single: £1

No other tickets will be valid on the service.

Previous Meetings

The Minstermen are unbeaten in their last three appearances against Barnet, which saw the Minstermen beat The Bees 1-0 at the LNER Community Stadium back in April in the most recent meeting between the two sides.

Fans will also remember THAT 5-0 win at Barnet last season, where goals from Lenell John-Lewis (2), Alex Hurst, Sam Sanders and an own goal secured a resounding win for the Minstermen in the capital in October 2022.

It’s exactly eight years since Barnet last secured three points over the Minstermen, which came through a 3-1 win at The Hive in October 2015. The goalscorer that day for the Minstermen was Michael Coulson.

How to follow the game

As always, the best way to follow the game is in the ground. If you can’t make it to the LNER Community Stadium however, here are some alternatives:
