The Minstermen begin a new era this coming Saturday under new manager Neal Ardley as we take on Boreham Wood at the LNER Community Stadium in the Vanarama National League.
City head into this weekend’s fixture hoping to earn our first win of the season, following on from last weekend’s 4-1 defeat on the road at Ebbsfleet United.
Luke Garrard’s Boreham Wood sit only three points above the Minstermen in the league table, but they’ve only secured one win this season, which came as a 2-0 victory at home against FC Halifax Town.
They’re currently winless in their last five games, which has seen them draw twice during that run against Altrincham and Oldham Athletic. Their most recent result was last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to early league leaders Barnet.
We are pleased to announce that the football club and The Wilf Ward Family Trust have partnered together for this weekend’s game to embed inclusion resources at the stadium to promote accessibility and inclusivity in sport.
York City vs Boreham Wood will be played on Saturday 9th September, kicking off at 3pm. Here is all the information you need to know ahead of this weekend’s fixture.

Wilf Ward Family Trust Partnership
York City FC and The Wilf Ward Family Trust and thrilled to announce an exciting partnership to embed inclusion resources for this weekend’s Vanarama National League fixture against Boreham Wood.
This significant event marks a crucial step forward in promoting accessibility and inclusivity in sports, specifically catering to individuals with learning disabilities and complex care needs.
The fixture will act as a trial in the first instance, with the intention to make it a huge success and then be able to offer these measures at every future home fixture. The aim is to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all fans, ensuring that every individual can enjoy the excitement of sports and feel fully included in the community.
York City FC has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to fostering diversity and accessibility by designating a section of the stadium with quieter seating options for those with sensory needs. Additionally, they will provide complimentary ear defenders, which are yours to keep, upon request to help individuals who may experience sensory overload during the game.
Recognising the diverse requirements of their fans, the club will implement a range of measures to enhance accessibility throughout the match. These measures include an adapted match day programme, streamlined and easier accessibility entrances with dedicated club volunteers to assist with on-the-day needs, a ‘safe exit’ and ‘quiet room’ plan for any supporters who feel overwhelmed, and pre-match guidance content to help fans familiarise themselves with the stadium and its facilities.
Any supporters who wish to receive ear defenders are requested to complete this short form once they have secured their tickets so that the club can prepare the appropriate number of sets to distribute on the day. Anyone who does not complete the form but would like to receive ear defenders may not be able to so, therefore please complete the form in advance to avoid disappointment.
To discuss this initiative further, please contact Steve Dorey, our Development Officer, either by phone on 01904 624447 or via email at [email protected].

Foundation FanZone Stage Music – sponsored by Jorvik Radio
YouVee will be performing in the Fan Zone ahead of kick-off at this weekend’s game at the LNER Community Stadium.
Encapsulated in a Dream Rock Universe, YouVee are a 4 piece alternative rock band from York influenced by modern psychedelia consisting of Travis Kyle (vocals, guitar), Daniel Maddison (bass, vocals), Harrison Turner (drums) and Ben Layfield (lead guitar, synth).
YouVee formed in February 2020 and drawing inspiration from bands such as The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead and System Of A Down, they got straight to work developing their post indie/psychedelic rock sound and then releasing their debut single ‘UltraViolet’ on 26th July 2020. This was shortly followed by two more singles, ‘New Emotion’ and ‘Mooreside’.
Y22 Bus Service
The Y22 Shuttle Bus service, kindly organised by York City Supporters Trust and First York, will be running for this fixture.
The Y22 service runs from two hours before kick-off and after the game until the ground is clear, up to 90 minutes after the full-time whistle. This increases the frequency of buses running between Stonebow in the City Centre and the Monks Cross Park & Ride stop, as well as freeing up capacity on the existing number 9 route.
Fans wishing to use the service will need to purchase the Y22 tickets from the First Buss app, which are priced at:
Adult return: £3.50
Child/Concessionary return: £2
Adult single: £2
Child/Concessionary single: £1
No other tickets will be valid on the service.
Previous Meetings
The Minstermen and Boreham Wood will meet this weekend for only the fifth time, having first met at Bootham Crescent for the first time in August 2016.
All four previous meetings have ended in 1-1 draws, with neither team claiming a victory over the opponent since we first locked horns seven years ago.
Last season Boreham Wood came from behind in both fixtures to claim a point against the Minstermen, with the most recent fixture between the two sides coming as recent as February this year.
