Match Report | Aldershot Town 0-3 York City

York City cruised to a 3-0 win away at Aldershot Town on Saturday afternoon as they reached 100 Enterprise National League goals for the season.

Cameron Hargreaves took on the first shot of the game, but his effort, which slipped off the grass, was an easy save for Harrison Male.

Theo Widdrington was looking for an audacious effort not long after. His shot from range flew wide of the mark.

York’s first chance of note came in the 17th minute. Alex Newby with an advanced run into the box before rolling a shot at goal. Coniah Boyce-Clarke got down low to make the stop.

Widdrington had another shot go wide moments later. Another shot from outside the box, this one took a deflection to take it wide.

City took the lead in fantastic fashion in the 24th minute. A long ball from Harrison Male was headed on by Josh Stones into the path of Ollie Banks, who hit his shot first time right into the bottom left-hand corner.

The goal only seemed to spur the Minstermen on more. Malachi Fagan-Walcott with a low driven shot at goal, which had to be kept out by Boyce-Clarke.

Charlie Warren came close to bringing the Shots level, but his shot from just inside the box was held by Male.

Just before half-time, City launched another attack, Ollie Pearce with a ball from the right into Alex Newby, who shot first time, but the Shots keeper made another good stop down low.

Aldershot came out in the second half firing. They landed the first shot at goal when Olly Scott tried his luck on the half-volley, only to be denied by Male.

York doubled the lead on the hour mark. Jeff King with a teasing cross to the left side of the box, and there was Alex Newby to hit the ball first time into the bottom corner.

Ben Brookes nearly added a third with 15 to play, but his left-footed effort smacked the right-hand post before the hosts were able to clear away.

Boyce-Clarke was called into action minutes later. Pearce, with a shot from close range, forced the Shots no.41 into a smart stop.

The game was wrapped up in the 83rd minute. Super sub Greg Olley dispossessed the Shots’ back line before racing through on goal, squaring the ball to Josh Stones, who tapped home.

The game’s final chance came three minutes from time. Stones hit the side netting with a shot from the edge of the box.
