Alex Hunt had his first chance of the half not long after. His shot, direct from a free-kick, curled just wide of the right-hand post.

Hunt again tried his luck from outside the box on his left foot. His low-driven shot was pushed wide by Hutchinson.

Hiram Boateng went for goal from range in the 20th minute from range but his shot went high and wide of the target.

City were handed a chance to shoot on the edge of the box from a free-kick. Alex Newby stepped up to shoot but his effort stuck the wall.

The former Alty man had another chance moments later when he beat his man down the left-hand side before shooting at goal. This shot flew wide of the right-hand post.

Boateng came close to the opener after half and hour when his shot from inside the box was headed off the line superbly by Jake Cooper.

Hunt won possession back for City in a dangerous area before his ball to Stones who shot at goal was held by Hutchinson.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 42nd minute when City caught Altrincham on the counter attack. Stones with a ball across to Alex Newby who fired a shot into the bottom left-hand corner against his former club.

The Minstermen dominated the opening proceedings in the second half. Zak Johnson with the first chance from a header which was hooked away only for the rebound to fall to Dan Batty who lofted the ball to Malachi Fagan-Walcott at the back-post who’s header was tipped over by Hutchinson.

Newby tried his luck once more from range but his shot was pushed down low by Hutchinson.

Dan Batty was next to shoot from outside the box but this effort flew inches over the bar.

The hosts best chance came in the 61st minute when Olly Crankshaw forced Male into a stop with a shot from inside the box.

Sub Ben Brookes did brilliantly down the left to feed in a cross towards Josh Stones who went for goal but again Hutchinson was equal to the effort.

Brookes was called into action inside his own box not long after when he put in a good block to deny the hosts from a shot at the back post.

In the 88th minute the game was thrown into chaos when Altrincham found an equaliser through Lucas Weaver who pounced on a lose ball from inside the box.
