The Minstermen won 2-0 against Bromley at Hayes Lane in the Vanarama National League on Saturday afternoon.
Goals in both halves wrapped up back-to-back victories for the Minstermen, moving them out of the relegation zone too.
Adam Hinshelwood made just one change to the side which beat Aldershot seven days prior, with Callum Howe dropping out through illness for the returning Will Smith.
It was a measured opening twenty minutes by both sides, with little between both teams.
Dipo Akimyemi broke an offside trap in the 8th minute, getting the better of Bromley captain Byron Webster, before hitting a shot just wide.
The ball fall kindly for Louis Dennis to hit a volley inside the area on the 21st minute, with the shot deflected away by a City defender in the end.
It was the Minstermen who opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Akimyemi’s cross met the charging Marvin Armstrong in the area.
Armstrong struck the shot, with a save made, before a retreating Bromley defender looked to have bundled the ball in past the City midfielder who was stood on the line.
Rory Watson made two significant saves just shy of half time, firstly laying a strong swiping hand on a close-range header from a corner.
A 43rd minute save soon followed, with Watson getting around to the back post and blocking the strike from another Bromley corner.
In a half largely seen with Bromley controlling the ball, City did produce an early move in the 50th minute.
Armstrong worked it across the pitch, picking out a runner in Maz Kouhyar down the right-hand flank. Kouhyar cut back to the arriving Alex Hunt, who had his effort blocked away.
Watson was down again to palm away a 68th minute shot from substitute Kido Taylor-Hart, taken from just outside the area.
City went from back to front in a flash on the 72nd minute, starting with Will Smith who headed a Bromley attack clear.
Armstrong picked up the clearance and drove forward with the ball, picking out Kouhyar down the left-hand flank. Kouhyar drove the distance but was caught up and crowded out at the end of the pitch.
Bromley substitute Olufela Olomola was presented with a golden opportunity to tie up the game in the 75th minute, receiving the ball inside the area but being unable to get it out his feet and take the point-blank range shot.
The Minstermen had the tie wrapped up in the 81st minute via an outrageous Akinyemi lifted shot, from some distance, which went up and over the Bromley shotstopper.
York held on to claim all three points on the road, lifting Hinshelwood’s men out of the bottom four.
