York City rounded off their league campaign in style with a convincing 2-0 win in Hampshire.

The hosts registered the first chance of the game when Cam John committed a foul on the edge of the box. The resulting free-kick was hit by Chris Maguire but straight into the York wall.

City’s first chance came when Tyrese Sinclair played a lofted ball into the box looking for Ollie Pearce but the ball just escaped the number 10’s head as it bounced into the arms of Joe McDonnell.

The Minstermen had the lead on the 15 minute mark. Lewis Richardson feeding an inch-perfect cross from the right, straight into the path of Ollie Pearce who guided the ball home.

City doubled the lead just four minutes later. Joe Felix picking out a perfect ball forward towards Cam John who went charging through on goal before rounding McDonnell and slotting the ball in the net.

The Minstermen were hungry for more. Lewis Richardson this time going alone from the edge of the box but a slight deflection dragged his shot wide of the post.

It should have been three after 32 minutes when Tyrese Sinclair’s shot from the left forced a great save from McDonnell before the rebound fell to Pearce inside the box but he could only blaze his effort over the bar.

Sinclair was back involved in the action shortly after when he tries his luck from the left again but McDonnell was again equal to the effort.

York were cruising in this contest and came close again when another ball into the box was well left by Pearce before it fell into the path of Malachi Fagan-Walcott who struck the ball but again McDonnell was there to make a good stop.

Joe Felix registered a shot in the opening minute in the second half but it was well blocked behind by the Eastleigh back line.

Eastleigh were yet to test Harrison Male in the York goal but came close when Nathan Tshikuna unleashed a venomous shot from inside the box but his effort could only find the stand behind the goal.

Substitute Dipo Akinyemi was looking to get his name on the scoresheet after coming on. He struck a curling effort at goal from the edge of the box but it fell just wide of the post.

Junior Luamba likewise as Dipo was close to sending his name up in lights when he got on the end of a Cam John cross but his header bounced just side of the post.

Eastleigh’s day was summed up when Tyrese Shade caught space to shoot from inside the box but he placed his shot way over the bar.

The hosts were unable to break down the York back-line no more as City took home all three points.
