York City registered a victory in pre-season over Marine AFC in Merseyside.

Marine registered the first shot of the game in the opening 7 minutes. Gregson with a shot from the edge of the box but the shot was well blocked by Callum Howe.

Josh Stones had a chance of his own moments later, his effort on the half-volley was tipped over by the Trialist Marine keeper.

Dan Batty let fly from range for City; his powerful effort was well blocked by the head of Butler, who was able to see the ball out for a throw.

City took the lead in the 26th minute when some clever play allowed Ashley Nathaniel-George room to shoot before he buried his effort into the bottom right-hand corner.

Marine came close to levelling the scores when a shot from close range was well kept out by George Sykes-Kenworthy, only for the rebound to be blocked by Howe.

The hosts were putting up a strong fight in the first half and came close again. Newall’s shot bent just around the post.

City came out in the second half looking strong. Ben Brookes with a ball across to Stones, who took a swipe at goal, but his effort was well blocked.

Stones had another chance just minutes later, a ball into the box fell kindly to him, but his shot was well kept out by the Marine keeper, who got down low to make the save.

A chance for the trialists to impress, when in the 73rd minute, a Marine trialist launched a shot at goal, but his effort was well saved by the trialist in the City net.

Malachi Fagan-Walcott found himself covering the length of the pitch before teeing the ball up to Nathaniel-George, who took a shot on, but he could only place his shot over the bar.
