Match Report | Scunthorpe United 0-3 York City

The Minstermen secured their 8th victory in a row last night following a 3-0 win away to Scunthorpe United.

Scunthorpe had the first shot of the game. Alfie Beestin from just outside the box but his effort was easily collected by Harrison Male.

Josh Stones found himself through on goal from a lobbed ball forward. The city no.9 went for a chipped shot but he could only watch as his effort sailed wide.

Stones found himself with room to shoot once more just a minute later but his shot on the turn was kept out superbly by Rory Mahady in the Scunthorpe goal.

Third time was the charm for Josh Stones as Hiram Boateng’s ball forward was collected by Stones who moved the ball onto his left-foot before finding the bottom corner from inside the box.

The hosts hit back with a chance of their own when Carlton Ubaezuonu had space to shoot inside the box. His left-footed effort curling inches wide of the post.

The Iron had a great chance to equalise from a free-kick when Callum Roberts was given the chance to shoot on the edge of the box. His shot hitting the City wall.

York doubled their lead on the half-hour mark. Stones playing the ball out wide to Ben Brookes who whipped in a cross first time straight to the head of Joe Grey who’s header found the back of the net.

City were close to making it three inside the first minute in the second half when Stones saw a gap to play Joe Grey through. Grey’s shot was well kept out by Mahady before the ball came to Jeff King who struck another shot which rattled the crossbar.

Zain Westbrooke took a shot on for the hosts towards the near post but Male got down low to his left to make the stop.

Josh Stones got his second of the night in incredible fashion. A ball played to Stones on the half-way line who ran the distance of the half, beating two defenders before rounding the keeper to slot home a third goal.
