York City went back-to-back with 2-1 wins on the road following Saturday afternoon’s victory against Sutton United in the Enterprise National League.
Sutton took the lead with the first chance of the game. A Lewis Simper corner fell kindly to Will Tizzard, who placed the ball into the net from inside the box.
The hosts went for goal again shortly after when Jayden Harris shot on the half-volley from outside the box, but it flew over the bar.
Josh Stones had the first shot for City, but from a tight angle inside the box, he could only find the side netting.
City drew level in the 24th minute when a corner was headed back into the path of Hiram Boateng who hit the ball first time, finding the bottom corner.
Ollie Pearce nearly grabbed City a second not long after. His shot on the turn rolled inches wide of the right-hand post.
Joe Grey had a chance to shoot towards the end of the first half, but his effort from just inside the box went straight at Jack Sims.
Stones nearly had City in front inside the opening seconds in the second hal,f but his shot flew just wide of the right-hand post.
The City no.9 was involved on the front foot once more when he laid the ball off to Alex Hunt who went in search of the bottom corner. Only to be denied by Sims.
York did take the lead in the 49th minute, Dan Batty with an excellent ball across the face of goal, and there was Ollie Pearce to smash the ball home from inside the box.
Harrison Male claimed the plaudits when he got down brilliantly to deny Sutton with an incredible double save from inside the box.
The City goalkeeper was also on hand to deny David Ogbonna from inside the box shortly after.
Alex Newby came close to adding a third, but his shot was blocked in the box before his second attempt was hooked off the line.
Jeff King returned to the Minstermen and had the chance to shoot from a free-kick. His shot struck the Sutton wall before the hosts could clear.
