Match Report | Wealdstone 0-3 York City

York City had three players score their first goal for the club in an impressive 3-0 win away at Wealdstone to return to the top of the table.

Stuart Maynard made two changes to the City side that beat Hartlepool in midweek – Ollie Banks and Ben Brookes replaced Alex Newby and Joe Grey in the starting eleven.

Micah Obiero had the first shot of the game for the hosts but it went high and wide of the net from the edge of the box.

Ollie Pearce went for goal from range but the shot went straight at Dante Baptiste who collected the ball.

Following his assist on Wednesday, Ollie Banks was handed a start. His first involvement was feeding in a cross to Pearce inside the box, the header bounced just wide of the post.

Shay Spencer was next to have a go for the hosts but his attempted effort from range was well blocked by Hiram Boateng.

Obiero was looking lively and had another chance in the 30th minute when he went charging through on goal. Zak Johnson did well to tame the shot into the arms of Harrison Male.

Mark Kitching made an advancing run into the box before playing a one-two with Ollie Banks who lofted the ball back to him but his header was collected by Baptiste.

Wealdstone were very much bringing the game to City and had another chance on the stroke of half time when Nathan Tshikuna hit a shot from the edge of the box which was blocked into the path of Spencer who fired over.

Ollie Banks nearly had the ball in the net moments later but Baptiste made a great fingertip save to deny the Minstermen.

Banks also had the first chance of the second half when he teed himself up to shoot on the volley but his effort went straight at Baptiste.

Wealdstone were reduced to ten men in the 56th minute when Enzio Boldewijn laid a late challenge on Jeff King, earning him a second yellow card.

Ben Brookes played in a great ball down the left looking for Banks in the middle who headed goalwards only to see his effort loop inches wide of the right-hand post.

The hosts hit back with a chance of their own when Thsikuna hit a venomous shot from the edge of the box which clipped the crossbar and went over.

The deadlock was finally broken when substitute Joe Grey hit a shot from inside the box which rolled into the path of Morgan Williams who pounced to poke home for his first goal for the club.

The points were wrapped up when a Ben Brookes long throw bounced all the way through to Zak Johnson who steered the ball in from inside the box to also grab his first goal for the club.

Most notably, Dan Batty also got in on the act, netting in City colours for the first time in over 100 appearances, and he did it in style.

A loose ball fell outside the box, and the midfielder needed just a single touch before rocketing the ball into the top corner.
