York City drew 1-1 against Woking at The Laithwaite Community Stadium in the Vanarama National League on Saturday evening.
Lenell John-Lewis’ 81st minute penalty cancelled out Woking’s 55th minute breakthrough.
Manager Adam Hinshelwood made four changes to the side which featured seven days ago in the stalemate against Eastleigh at the LNER Community Stadium.
Alex Hunt, Callum Harriott, Dan Batty and Ricky Aguiar come into the side in place of Tyrese Sinclair, Marvin Armstrong, Billy Chadwick and Cameron John.
The Minstermen were quick out the block, securing two corners inside the opening five minutes.
Winger Callum Harriott struck sweetly in the seventh minute, guiding a long range left footed shot into the path of Will Jaaskelainen.
After signing on the afternoon for the match, Adam Chicksen looked for debut delight with an 11th minute strike on the bounce.
Further chances followed for hosts Woking. Ben Wynter snatched at a shot before Lewis Walker planted a quick Dan Moss corner over the bar.
Both sides had penalty appeals waved away by referee Sunny Singh Gill in the first half.
Joe Felix hit the deck first, just inside the area, before Raheem Conte fall too four minutes later.
Midfielder Ricky Aguiar was closest to breaking the deadlock in te game after 32 minutes.
The midfielder was found after Ollie Pearce made the run, but the 23-year-old’s close range left footed shot was saved.
Adam Hinshelwood’s side grew further into the game as the half went on, getting off half chances through Alex Hunt on the edge of the area and Callum Howe from a corner.
It was Woking who went on to find a breakthrough in the game. Raheem Conte’s well worked 55th minute cross picked out Dan Moss on the far side, who executed a diving header to give Woking the lead.
Felix nearly put up an instant response for The Minstermen, forcing Jaaskelainen into a save down low.
Substitute Lenell John-Lewis got straight into action, arrowing Felix cross from the right flank just wide of the post.
A lovely threaded through ball from Felix unlocked Armstrong in an advanced position in the 73rd minute. The midfielder went right to Sinclair, who had his effort in front of goal blocked by a last ditch sliding challenge.
The winger went again from the corner he won, heading over Dan Batty’s delivery in the end.
York won a penalty from an 80th minute corner delivery by Batty, with the suggestion that the ball had been handled in the area by referee Sunny Singh Gill.
Striker Lenell John-Lewis stepped up to dispatch superbly, low into the corner of Jaaskelainen’s net.
Our super substitution went on to glance an 86th minute header wide, as York continued to knock on the door.
The ball didn’t fall right in the end however, but The Minstermen do make it eight unbeaten as they head into Emirates FA Cup action next Saturday against Biggleswade.
