The Minstermen drew 0-0 at home against Needham Market in the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round at the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
York started the game off strong with a long-range effort from Dipo Akinyemi forcing a save from Marcus Garnham within the first five minutes.
York continued their barrage as midfielder Dan Batty collected the ball in the middle and tried to play Scott Burgess through, but his pass was too heavy and was calmly dealt with by the opposition defence.
This seemed to be a regular theme in the first half with chances being few and far between, the next major chance was late in the first half when a beautiful delivery from Ryan Fallowfield ended up with Olly Dyson striking the bar.
With the start of the second half being much of the same, the game started to become a lot more open. York were starting to find more gaps in behind but it was a day of poor passes and first touches that couldn’t see them find that edge over the opposition.
Ardley made some changes through the second half allowing Akinyemi to end up more central with the addition of Kennedy down the left. The change caused Needham Market more problems towards the end, with Akinyemi finding himself wide open as he shot low at his near post forcing Marcus Garnham to make a crucial save.
The inform striker who has bagged 8 goals this season, couldn’t find the finishing touch against a tough team to break down. Late on in the second half he found himself open yet again but as he hit his shot a sea of yellow flew in to block it off the line.
