York City and Southend played out another draw at the LNER after a late Ollie Pearce goal rescued a point for the Minstermen.
City had the first chance of the game when Ollie Pearce played a ball over the top to Greg Olley, who shot first time on the half volley, but Collin Andeng Ndi made the save down low.
Southend came close to opening the score in the 14th minute. Leon Parillon with a poke at the ball from just inside the box, but Harrison Male did brilliantly to tip the ball onto the bar.
The visitors hit the woodwork for a second time when a shot from inside the box was parried by Male into the path of Andy Dallas, who struck the left-hand post with his rebound.
Southend took the lead shortly after. Gus Scott-Morriss with a deadly cross from the right, reaching Harry Cardwell inside the box, who buried a header past Male and into the net.
York’s best chance of the first half came in the form of an Alex Newby volley at the back-post which was well blocked by Southend.
The resulting corner fell kindly to Joe Grey who shot on his second touch from the edge of the box but his effort flew inches wide of the post.
Hiram Boateng had an early chance at the start of the second half when he shot from the edge of the box. Andeng Ndi got down low to make the stop.
Boateng went alone with his next chance from a free-kick from a tight angle. His shot was tipped over by the Southend keeper.
Southend caught City on the break in the 60th minute but the resulting shot from Slavi Spasov was well saved low by Male.
City were pressing for an equaliser and it nearly came in the 70th minute when Alex Newby had a shot deflected into the path of Pearce who went for goal only to see his shot blocked superbly inside the box.
Alex Hunt was in search of a trademark free-kick 7 minutes before time but unfortunately his shot sailed over the bar.
The final chance of note came from a Jeff King cross into Ollie Pearce who swung his leg at the ball before rolling his shot under the Southend keeper to rescue a point.
