York came out on top with a routine victory over Solihull Moors in the final league home game of the season, thanks to goals from Cameron John and Dipo Akinyemi.

After a nice move down the right hand side Cameron John opened the scoring, slotting the ball home at the near post after 3 minutes with the first chance of the game, for his first York City goal.

York’s next chance of the game would come courtesy of John again, who played a cross high into the box, which went over the head of Richardson.

York had the first corner of the game, Howe’s header however was easily caught by Walker. The first booking of the game came in the 23rd minute for newly crowned Clubman of the Year, Joe Felix, after a challenge on James Clarke.

Tyresse Sinclair would have the next best chance of the game, however, he wasn’t fully able to control the ball, with Walker making a decent save.

The referee then dismissed a penalty shout from York after Richardson was dragged down in the box after some good footwork. Richardson’s good footwork was a theme throughout the first half, being brought down numerous times by the visitors.

On the cusp of halftime, Fagan-Walcott was in the action again, nearly scoring at the near post after a cross from Ollie Pearce. Pearce got in the action again during the added time of the first half, having a header well saved by Walker.

York went into the interval well on top, having dominated the first half, not even allowing Solihull a shot in the first 45.

The first chance of the second half fell to Tyrese Sinclair, who had his low shot blocked by the Solihull defence.

Solihull’s first shot of the game came from a corner in the 55th minute, it was no trouble for Harrison Male, who made a routine save.

York got their first corner of the second half on the hour mark, Sinclair managed to reach Hunt’s cross but fired his header well wide.

Nathaniel-George then fired over the bar after collecting the ball on the rebound from Ollie Pearce’s initial shot.

Luamba, after coming on as a substitute, had the ball in the net for City 66 minutes in, but his celebrations were cut short as he had strayed into an offside position.

York hit Solihull on the counter with 15 minutes to go, after some initial good work from Pearce and Stones, Luamba found himself on the end of the chance, shooting just wide.

Josh Stones had one cleared off the line after the keeper made a fine save from Ollie Pearce’s initial shot, and the same would happen a minute later with another Solihull defender throwing himself in the way of Dipo Akinyemi’s shot.

In one of the last bits of action in the game, Dipo Akinyemi, just like on his previous return from injury at Rochdale, found himself on the score sheet to make it 2-0 to City after getting himself on the end of Josh Stones’ cross.
