The Minstermen drew 2-2 against Bromley at the LNER Community Stadium in the Vanarama National League on Saturday afternoon.
Ardley made two changes to the side which beat Dagenham, & Redbridge during the week, with Lenell John-Lewis and Scott Burgess making the starting XI in place of Aiden Marsh and Zanda Siziba.
Neither team found any real cutting edge or spark in the opening twenty minutes of the fixture, with chances very sparse.
Tyler Cordner put in a great firm block to deny opposition forward Michael Cheek any form of clear-cut opportunity inside the area 23 minutes in.
In the 37th minute, Akinyemi cooly broke the deadlock for City in a half which had lacked chances.
After good work down the left-hand flank between Scott Burgess and Olly Dyson, the latter launched the ball to the striker who played John-Lewis. He then fed through the charging Akinyemi, who evaded the offside trap, before sitting goalkeeper Grant Smith and firing home.
Bromley’s Lewis Leigh then tested ‘keeper Ryan Whitley in the 39th minute, striking an attacking dead ball set-piece well to force a corner from the save.
In the second half, a Leigh free-kick again caused problems for the Minstermen in the 50th minute.
Leigh found Callum Reynolds in the area, who turned and struck hard, however Whitley dealt with that before Olufela Olomola missed the rebound.
Olomola then advanced down the left-hand flank in the 58th minute, fizzing a well crossed ball into the vicinity of Josh Passley who flashed his connecting header wide.
Bromley notched an equaliser in the 66th minute after working the ball around the edge of City’s area.
The ball was sent left by substitute James Vennings, to Ryan Jones, who found Cheek lurking at the back post to brush it into the net.
Two minutes later, Whitely sent a well-struck knuckled ball flying towards Whitley who beat it away.
City regained the lead in the 72nd minute through John-Lewis. After an attacking run was made by Cordner, which then saw the defender square in-wards to Burgess, a delicious cross was dinked up and over and onto the head of John-Lewis.
A healthy battle commenced for the remainder of the game, with both sides advancing forward and refusing to settle.
The visitors rescued a point on the road in the 90+4th minute when a whipped ball by Passley into the area ended up going all the way through hitting the back of the net.
