York City claimed victory at the very last at the LNER on Wednesday with Josh Stones grabbing a 103rd minute winner.

The first chance of note came from a Mark Kitching cross into the towering Zak Johnson, but his header went wide of the mark.

Hartlepool’s first shot came from a corner when the ball bounced out to Adam Campbell outside the box who struck it on the half-volley but his effort flew wide.

York took the lead in incredible fashion. The ball falling to Alex Newby outside the box who struck the ball on the half-volley and finding the top left-hand corner.

City nearly made it two shortly after when Hiram Boateng teed Ollie Pearce up from a free-kick who went for goal but his shot was beaten away by Nick Hayes.

Campbell found himself in a shooting position once more when he hit the ball from inside the box, only to be denied by a low save from Harrison Male.

Boateng hit the ball beautifully on the edge of the box but his shot was well blocked and cleared away by the visitors.

Hartlepool drew level in the 40th minute when Reiss McNally lept highest from a Pools corner at the back-post.

Pool nearly took the lead moments later when Campbell found himself with room to shoot inside the box. Male did well to get down and make the save.

Jeff King had the first shot of the second half. His left-footed shot from outside the box sailed just wide of the target.

King was looking lively once more when he fed in a teasing cross towards Josh Stones. The header from Stones bouncing just wide.

King came very close to grabbing a goal for himself moments later but his shot from inside the box was blocked on the line by Jack Hunter.

Alex Reid put Male to the test in the 67th minute when he hit a shot on the turn only to be denied down low by the City keeper.

Two City subs combined to provided another chance 8 minutes before the end. Ollie Banks with a ball across to Ben Brookes who shot on his right-foot but the effort went over the bar.

With 5 minutes of play to go City took the lead again. Banks with a cross straight to the head of Hiram Boateng who burried a header past Hayes and into the net.

With 10 minutes of injury time added on, Hartlepool drew level late into added time with the ball falling to Charlie Caton who him from a free-kick rebound smashed the ball past Male.
