Minstermen complete signing of forward Cedric Main

York City FC are delighted to announce the signing of forward Cedric Main, who will join the club upon the expiry of his contract with Blyth Spartans from July 2023.

The 25-year-old striker started his senior career in the Netherlands with FC Groningen, before moving to Spain to play for CF La Nucia and Almagro CF.

Main moved over to the UK and signed for FC United of Manchester in January 2021, before moving on to fellow Northern Premier League side South Shields later in the year.

After impressing during his short spell on Tyneside, he followed manager Graham Fenton to National League North side Blyth Spartans, where he spent the 2022/23 campaign.

Last season, he made 16 goal contributions for the Spartans, which proved vital to helping the club secure sixth tier survival for another season.

Main is noted for his ability to not only score, but create goals, holding the ball up well and bringing others into play.

An energetic and pacy forward, he is known for pressing with intensity and this resulted in him making 95 ball recoveries in his 39 league appearances last campaign.

Main was also remembered well in the North-East for an exceptional four-goal haul in Blyth Spartans’ Isuzu FA Trophy 2nd round tie against Buxton at Croft Park.

On joining the Minstermen, Main said: “I can’t wait to get going.

“I’ve played here before with Blyth and I thought it was a beautiful stadium, a good team as well. So I’m very pleased to get it over the line.”

“I’m strong, I have a lot of pace,” the forward added on his playing style.

“I like to dribble and like to get the fans off their seats.”

York City manager, Michael Morton, said on completing his second summer signing: “We are delighted to add Cedric to the team.

“He first caught our eye back in December when we played against Blyth in the FA Trophy.

“Since then, the club have been monitoring his progress and a lot of Cedric’s key attributes, stat metrics, and player behaviours marry up well with our recruitment strategy.

“He showcases a good level of personal possession, excellent movement patterns, and a great hunger to win the ball back quickly while also being able to play across all 4 attacking positions.”

The deal is subject to FA and National League approval.
