City look to head back to winning ways when they face Woking in front of a bumper crowd on Saturday at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm kick off).

The Minstermen come into this game having attained 10 points from their previous five games against tough opposition, and will be looking to add another three to help towards safety.

Woking come into this game unbeaten in two after securing a draw away at Bromley and a win against Dagenham and Redbridge last weekend.

Jayden Luker’s goal in the 93rd minute was enough to seal all three points for The Cardinals.

With both sides lingering towards the drop zone in the National League they will both be looking to boost their chances of survival.

Manager: Michael Doyle

The 42-year-old enjoyed an illustrious career as a player spanning 757 appearances across seven different clubs. His playing career saw him play for AGF Aarhus, Coventry City, Leeds United, Sheffield United, Portsmouth, Coventry City and Notts County. He also received one cap for the Republic of Ireland senior team.

Doyle made his first steps into coaching as a player/assistant head coach at Notts County. Later he joined up with his former County manager Ian Burchnall at Forest Green Rovers on the 27th of May 2022 to become assistant head coach at the League One side. On the 27th of January 2023, Doyle departed Forest Green Rovers as the club parted company with Ian Burchnall. On the 3rd of July 2023 he was appointed as Professional Development Phase coach at Portsmouth FC’s youth academy.

On the 17th of December 2023 he was appointed manager of Woking on a two-and-a-half-year contract which saw him take his first job in football management.

Top Scorer: Ricky Korboa

Ricky Korboa the Liverpool born Winger/Striker is Woking’s top scorer this season scoring 7 goals in 21 appearances for The Cards.

He started his career back in 2014 with Carshalton Athletic in the Isthmian League scoring 55 goals in 168 games for the club. This form earnt him a spot in the 2018-2019 team of the season for the Isthmian League and won five of the club’s seven player of the year awards. He was also an original attendee at the V9 Academy back in 2017.

Korboa after a successful few seasons at Carshalton went on to sign for Northampton Town on the 1st of September 2020 for an undisclosed fee on a one-year contract. He made 16 appearances for The Cobblers scoring 2 goals before leaving the club the following summer.

In the 2021-22 season he spent a year at Sutton United scoring 2 goals in 14 appearances for the club following his release at the conclusion of his contract.

following his release from Sutton United on the 28th of May 2022 Korboa signed a two-year deal with Woking.

He has amassed 38 appearances for Woking scoring 8 goals in his time there.

Head-to-Head

City have won all three of the last three fixtures against Woking and will be looking to replicate that head-to-head form this Saturday.

The reverse fixture saw Ryan Fallowfield score a 98th minute winner in a 2-1 victory for the Minstermen.

Woking’s last victory against City was a 3-2 away win all the way back on the 12th of April 2008. Onome Sodje scored twice in the game for City, however his goals were cancelled out by Jason Norville and a Giuseppe Sole double.
