Players Paddy McLaughlin and Rory Watson recently visited The Snappy Trust, who are a York City Charity Partner for the 2024/25 season.
Snappy is a registered charity working with Children and Young People with wide ranging disabilities. They have been established in York for 39 years and now support over 300 Children, Young People, and their families.
Snappy operate Schemes and Programmes in all school holidays, weekends, and some evenings. In addition, Snappy also offer an outreach programme to families who might struggle during term-time.
Snappy is managed by a Board of Trustees and one Service Manager, with sessional staff and a core of 100 volunteers to call on at any one time.
The lads engaged in Thursday night activities with the service users, ranging from different games to general chit-chat, before having a Q&A session.
Speaking on the evening, Paddy McLaughlin said: “It was great – thoroughly enjoyable.
“Both of us haven’t stopped smiling since we walked through the door. We’ve met some great people and had a really good evening.”
Goalkeeper Rory Watson also spoke on why he chose to become a player ambassador for The Snappy Trust.
“My cousin,” he began. “She’s got a learning disability, autism, so I thought it would be important to come down and see the great job that they do here.
“Like Paddy said, it’s just been a breath of fresh air. Everyone has been so welcoming to us; we’ve really loved it and it’s put a smile on our faces.”
The Snappy Trust‘s Karen Nash also kindly crafted a mosaic using recycled mental bottle caps taken from Foil for Snappy Recycling Collection initiative which raises money and awareness for Snappy.
