We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Stuart Maynard as the new first-team manager of York City FC.
Maynard began his coaching career back in 2012, working as an assistant manager for Hemel Hempstead under then-manager Dean Brennan. He followed Brennan as assistant to Billericay Town and Kingstonian before arriving at Wealdstone in 2019.
In their first season, they led the Stones to automatic promotion from the National South. Brennan departed the club in 2021, which left the door open to Maynard as his successor.
Initially taking over as interim manager before being given the job permanently, Stuart guided Wealdstone to survival in his first few months as manager before taking the club to their highest league position in over three decades in the National League.
A hugely successful 23/24 season for Maynard and Wealdstone earned him a move to League Two side Notts County. He took Notts to the League Two play-offs last season following a 6th place finish.
He now joins the Minstermen, speaking on his arrival, co-chairs Matt & Julie-Anne Uggla said, “We are thrilled to have Stuart with us as the new first team manager.
“He comes with a high pedigree of football knowledge and holds the same ambition as ourselves in taking this football club to the EFL.
“We know all supporters will join us in welcoming him to the club, and we cannot wait for this next chapter to begin next weekend.”
Stuart added, “I’m very delighted to join such an ambitious club in York City. The direction this club has taken since Matt and Julie-Anne took over aligns with my goals to make York a successful club. The foundations have been built for long-term success, and I cannot wait to get started.”
He will be joined by new assistant manager Joao Alves, who worked under Maynard at Notts County. Gary Elphick will remain at the club as a first-team coach.
Welcome to York City, Stuart and Joao!
