First Team Manager: John Askey

John Askey was appointed interim manager until the end of the season on 13 November 2021 after leaving his role as manager of League Two club Port Vale earlier in the year. After a successful start to his reign he was given the job permanently in March 2022 having steered the club into a playoff position.

The 57-year-old previously spent 5 years as manager of Macclesfield Town, whom he won the National League with during 2017/18 with one of the smallest budgets in the fifth tier. He also managed the Silkmen to a runners-up place in the Buildbase FA Trophy in 2016/17. He went on to manage Shrewsbury Town before taking the role at Port Vale.

Askey has been described as an attacking-minded manager with a reputation for playing attractive football.

 

 

First Team Coach: Kingsley James

Kingsley James was handed his first opportunity in full time coaching shortly after Askey was appointed and will support the manager in the dugout and at the training ground.

29-year-old James worked with manager John Askey as a player at Macclesfield Town and also has experience coaching youth players at Sheffield United, Port Vale and Hereford United.

 

Sports Scientist: Paddy McLaughlin

McLaughlin signed on a dual role as player/sport scientist in the summer of 2021, helping the first team and youth team squads with strength and conditioning and injury prevention.

The 30-year-old spent five years completing a distance learning degree which he started in 2014 whilst playing for Grimsby Town, graduating with a first-class honours in sport and exercise science.

He is currently in his second spell as a York City player, having joined the club initially in 2011 from Newcastle United - winning the Conference Playoffs and the FA Trophy with the club in his first season.

 

Lead Sports TherapistLewis Bulmer

A former graduate of York St. John University, Bulmer joined the club in September 2020 and works with the first team and U19s academy side providing physiotherapy for the players.

 

Goalkeeper Coach: Mark Goodlad

Former Port Vale Goalkeeper Mark Goodlad joined John Askey's backroom staff in March 2022 and oversees the development of the goalkeeping department on a full-time basis. He has previously held similar roles at Nottingham Forest and the Nike Academy and has most recently held the position of Head Goalkeeper Coach at Championship club Barnsley.

 

Kit Man: Tony Brown

Tony works with the club on a matchday, assisting the players and the manager with preparations around the dressing room. He also prepares the team's kit for home and away games, travelling with the first-team squad.

 

First Team Analyst: James Thwaite

James joined the club as an Academy Coach at the start of the 2021/22 season, before stepping into a part-time position as the club's analyst under John Askey in November 2021. James helps with preparation for first team games using data and video footage.
