SUMMARY
We scored a stunning 95 goals throughout the campaign, 35 more than the previous season.
Billy Chadwick’s cheeky chip sealed a first win of the season at home to Tamworth, setting us on our way.
In September, Ashley Nathaniel-George opened the scoring away at Wealdstone with his trademark long-range finish, another game in which City emerged 2-0 victors.
A memorable night under the LNER Community Stadium lights saw us score twice in a matter of minutes in the second half to beat Barnet 3-1, with Alex Hunt’s first goal in red and blue, a superb free-kick, taking the ‘Goal C’ slot.
There was plenty to choose from in November, with plenty of goals scored – in particular, our emphatic 6-2 thumping of Maidenhead United, which kicked off with a great team move to set up Ollie Pearce’s header, his 15th of the season.
Ricky Aguiar had a great December, and gained all the plaudits in our Isuzu FA Trophy opener against Darlington, curling home from outside the area.
January’s goal of the month actually came in a defeat, but it certainly deserved the accolade – Tyrese Sinclair’s early strike against Boston was an excellent curling effort from 30 yards out.
Josh Stones’ first goals in a York shirt all came at once, netting a hat-trick against Woking, and of the three he scored, the third and final one was by far the best, leaning back to divert home a difficult header to grab the match ball.
It’s no surprise to see the league’s top scorer with another goal included in the vote – his skill against Rochdale could not go amiss, many fans will remember the backheel into the back of the net that marked the start of a fantastic 4-0 win at the Crown Oil Arena.
The penultimate goal came from captain Callum Howe, during an unbelievable afternoon of football at the LNER – City beat Aldershot 7-2. Linking up with Pearce, the centre-back popped up in the box to curl home a thunderous effort, to some astonishment.
We only netted twice in May, both coming on matchday 46 against Eastleigh – it’s Pearce’s opener that goes down as ‘Goal J’, as he finished off a precise pass from Lewis Richardson.
