YCFC collab with artist Lucy Pittaway

RENOWNED artist Lucy Pittaway and York City Football Club have successfully ‘teamed up’ in a first-of-its-kind collaboration.

Invited guests gathered earlier this week for an exclusive VIP event at the Lucy Pittaway Gallery in Coppergate, York, to mark the launch of Lucy’s latest painting, The Minstermen.

The artwork, in Lucy’s instantly recognisable style, is a vibrant celebration of York City FC, depicting a Lucy Pittaway sheep in full club colours, in front of the iconic York Minster.

Available as prints and canvasses, the artwork was revealed to the assembled guests alongside a range of supporting merchandise inspired by the piece, including notebooks, bookmarks, coasters, cushions, and tea towels.

The evening welcomed a distinguished guest list, including York City FC’s Manager Stuart Maynard and first team players including Goalkeeper Harrison Male and Craig Hewitt, the Club’s latest signing.

Among the 100 guests were also fan and club ambassador Guy Mowbray, competition winners, York City FC sponsors and other VIP attendees. Y01 Radio host Cai Sherlock was on hand to interview the players, Stuart Maynard and Lucy live during the event.

This collaboration marked the first of its kind for both Pittaway and York City FC and carried personal significance for Lucy, whose father, Willie Maddren, was a Middlesbrough legend, representing the club both as a player and manager.

Guests were able to purchase the original Minstermen painting, limited edition prints, and the newly unveiled merchandise, which are also available for sale via Lucy’s website and in her seven galleries across the North of England.

York City FC also announced their debut market stall at this year’s York Christmas Markets, where the collaborative merchandise was offered to fans and visitors alike.

Lucy said: “I am thrilled to be working alongside York City FC in this way. Football has been such an important part of my life, and I know how passionate fans are about their teams. I loved creating The Minstermen and I hope the team’s fans enjoy the piece. York City FC is at the heart of its community, one that we’re so proud to be a part of.”

Manager Stuart Maynard said: “Lucy’s work is incredible and The Minstermen represents the club beautifully. I’m sure the artwork, and the merchandise, will be really popular with our fans and will be on the Christmas lists for many of them! This is a great collaboration between Lucy and the club and it’s been great to work alongside her on this fantastic project.”
