York City Football Club Foundation Bootham Timeline Trail

York City Football Club Foundation is proud to present the first edition of our Bootham Timeline Trail.

This event is a sponsored walk, raising funds in support of our memory groups.

This event is a fundraiser for our memory groups, where all of the profits from this event will go. We are aiming to raise £4000, which would cover the costs of these groups for a year. These groups directly serve those in our community at risk of loneliness and isolation, as well as those with Parkinson’s, dementia and Alzheimer’s. The sessions involve sport-based reminiscence activities such as discussions, quizzes and physical activities.

A regular participant of our memory groups, Richard, describes the sessions as “a highlight of my week. I love the community we have”.

The event will take place on Sunday 14th September. The walk will begin with a short event at the Persimmon Homes development where Bootham Crescent once stood. We ask people to arrive before 10:30, shortly after which the trail will commence.

The 3.5-mile route will take participants on a trip down memory lane. A number of memory stops along the way, involving facts and quiz questions, will serve as a fabulous way to reminisce about the club’s journey, highlighting the move from Bootham Crescent to the LNER Community Stadium.

We are actively looking for people of all ages to enjoy the walk. Families are welcome with children aged 9 and upwards. We encourage more people to be involved in other capacities, such as volunteering at any of our stops along the way or our finish-line event. If you would like to be involved in such a way, please contact us at [email protected].

We also encourage local businesses to get involved with this project. We are looking for sponsors who will make small donations of £25 to have their business mentioned on all of our promotion and information for the event. If you are interested in getting involved with the event, please contact us at [email protected]

THE ROUTE

After starting at Bootham Crescent, the route will take us down Burton Stone Lane, before turning right onto Crichton Avenue, over the bridge. After the bridge, we will take a sharp right turn, where we will have our first quiz stop. When we continue, we will head on to the walk/cycle path taking us under Wigginton Road and through to Haxby Road. Turning left on Haxby Road, we will continue toward Joseph Rowntree Theatre, where the first Memory Stop will be located. Seats and water refills will be provided here. We will then continue down Haxby Road until we reach the York St John University Sports Fields, where we will take another quiz break. Continuing, we will go straight until we reach the roundabout, taking us right on Link Road. We will turn left at the next roundabout, onto Huntington Road, before turning right onto Roland Ct, where we will take a Memory Stop at Belly Buster Square Pan. Upon continuing, we will go back down Huntington Road before turning left onto Brockfield Park Drive. At the end of Brockfield Park Drive, we will turn left onto New Lane and cross the road before going down Jockey Lane. In Huntington, we will make a stop for another quiz break. When continuing, we will take a right turn, heading down to the stadium. Our finish line event will take place at Alpine Cafe, in Go Outdoors.
