York City Ladies FC | Weekly Roundup

York City Ladies first team travelled to Euxton Villa to play Chorley in their third away game of the FA National League campaign.

The ladies started strong and held their ground throughout the first half. Despite the hosts having multiple corners, Rosie Bell cleared the ball off the York goal line twice in the first half to maintain the score.

The ladies also got close to goal with Katie Astle and Sophie Bentley having shots on target. The game was extremely even with Chorley dominating in spells and York dominating in others. Niamh Doody retained the pressure on the hosts and was a consistent attacking threat, whilst Becky Sidwell made some extraordinary top-corner saves to deny Chorley at the other end, as well as punching the ball away numerous times.

The game continued much the same, going into the second half 0-0 as the Minster Belles kept their defensive unit tight and every player continued to fight until the end of the match. Coming away from the game with a well-earned point and many positives after working hard during training.

Manager Dan Jackson was extremely pleased with the result, earning a hard fought point and showing a much improved performance from the previous loss against Chester Le Street Town Ladies. Dan added: “Every single player on the team gave 110% effort and that is what we are going to need to climb up the table.”

York City Ladies Reserves welcomed Hull City Reserves in the preliminary round of the FA Women’s National League Reserve Cup competition. In an entertaining game, York had numerous chances in front of goal, with every player giving 100% effort but sadly the teams attacking efforts could not be capitalised on, where York were unable to slot any chances into the net.

The team went into half time one goal down after numerous close one versus one battles between the teams saw Hull gain a one goal advantage. The game continued where York were sadly unable to turn in their chances, with Hull adding another goal against the run of play in the sixty-fifth minute, and another before the final whistle.

Though the game finished 0-3 to Hull, manager Joe said: “Every girl gave everything. If we play like that for the rest of the season we will win more than we lose – I am a very proud coach. The only difference between the two teams today was that Hull were able to take their chances infront of the net”.

The development team were without a game today but will host Leeds Modernians in next week’s fixture.
