Here is a rundown on how the York City Ladies teams got on over the weekend.
First Team
The First Team battled past Fleetwood Town Wrens to reach the First Round Proper of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup after a 5-2 win at York Sport Stadium. The visitors, who play in the Northwest Women’s Regional League took the lead in just the fourth minute when Kris Boos smashed into the back of the net. Their lead only lasted 14 minutes when Faye Singleton scored from the edge of the area. Emily Senior’s side then took the lead in the 26th minute when Ruby Gore smashed the ball into the bottom corner before Singleton doubled her tally with a finish into the back of the net to make it 3-1. The final action of an end-to-end first-half came in the form of a goal for the visitors. Kris Boos doubled her personal tally after taking the ball round Becky Sidwell and firing into an empty net.
The second half started with Singleton firing agonisingly wide of the goal in the 46th minute. The visitors continued to push hard, in a bid to get back on level terms, but failed to test Sidwell in the MinsterBelles goal. Katie Astle had a brilliant chance to extend her sides lead but her strike was straight at the Wrens keeper. Senior’s side secured their place in the First Round Proper when a late double from substitute Grace Sykes made sure of the result.
The MinsterBelles are back on the road this Wednesday, for the rearranged game against Middlesbrough FC Women at Redcar Athletic.
Reserves
The game got off to a fast start with Stockport testing the York defence from kick off. However, the home said failed to make their early pressure pay and a long ball from Kerry Heslop found Ruby Watt in space, the forward stayed calm and composed one on one with the goalkeeper to give the Reserves the lead. This goal gave York an injection of confidence and straight from the kick off possession was regained and an inviting cross into the box was met by the inform Rosie Bell who’s initial effort was saved by the goalkeeper but she made no mistake from the follow up to double the away sides leave.
The rest of the half was evenly matched with neither side able to take full control of the game, it was the home side who had the better chances with Erin Rodger’s called into action on several occasions to keep Yorks lead intact. The reserves were able to kill the game off just before half time when Crystal Boyce managed to capitalise on a mix up in the Stockport defence to run clear and extend the lead to three.
The second half was played out much like the first, with both sides having periods of pressure throughout, the home side again creating chances forcing Rodger’s into making a smart one handed save onto the post, before moments later the Stockport forward once again found space in the penalty area with the post coming to the rescue again. York then created chances of their own with Daisy Masefield, Ruby Watt and Rosie Bell all having efforts saved by the Stockport goalkeeper, the result was then put beyond doubt when Ruby Shaws effort on goal was steered home by an unmarked Bella Marshall.
The reserves now have a free week before turning their attention to cup action when they face a strong Newcastle United side away from home
Development Team
The Development team looked to continue their recent run of wins as they travelled to face Kiveton Park FC Women.
From the first minute the Devs dominated possession of the ball. The pressure on the opposition resulted in the first goal of the afternoon on the 40th minute. Georgie Taylor flicked the ball in behind for Izzy Eaton to run on to and she struck the ball past the keeper.
The second half saw the Devs continue with dominating possession of the ball. A defence splitting pass from Kazia Walby saw Eaton through on goal and from an acute angle, she lobbed the goalkeeper.
Georgie Taylor then received and turned her opposite player and fed the ball into the path of Lucy Fairbank. Beating her defender 1v1, Fairbank’s shot rifled into the top corner, off the bar from the edge of the box.
After scoring twice, Eaton this time provided the assist for the fourth goal. A corner into the back post was headed home by Taylor from 6 yards out.
On the 81st Minute, Eaton won the ball from a Kiveton goal kick and played in Fairbank who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner to score the Devs fifth goal.
Beatrice Matique finished the scoring off in the 87th minute. Linking up with Taylor, Matique received the ball on the edge of the 18-yard box and struck her shot into the top left corner.
Securing a 6-0 win, the Devs registered their 3rd win in as many games. They will now turn their attention to the County Cup where they travel to face Guisborough Town on the Sunday 20th October.
