York City Ladies Weekly Round-Up

Here is a rundown on how the York City Ladies teams got on over the weekend.

First Team:

The MinsterBelles progressed through to the semi-final of the County Cup after goals from Jess Holder, Rosie Bell, Felicity Jones, Imogen Hayhurst, Karli Smith, Ruby Gore, Lucy Lendhill, Emily Cattle and Dani Trickett helped them overcome Northallerton Town Women at York St John University.

The win in the County Cup sets up a semi-final against Redcar Athletic Ladies, scheduled to be played on Sunday 16th March.

Development Team:

The Development team secured their seventh league win of the season with a 4-2 win over Lower Hopton at home.

York opened the scoring on the 30th Minute.  Ruby Watt was brought down in the box and her resulting penalty was tucked away into the bottom left corner.  Two minutes later, the lead was doubled.  Watt picked the ball up in the 18-yard box from Izzy Eaton.  Watt’s shot was then turned in by Lucy Fairbank.

Lower Hopton came back into the game either side of Half-Time.  On the 44th minute, a free kick was looped over the keeper into the top right corner.  Then five minutes into the second half, Lower Hopton grabbed the equaliser.  A long-range shot was parried by Layla Addy and then converted by the oppositions striker.

The young Minsterbelles pushed forward straight after conceding and within one minute they restored their lead.  Eaton delivered a cross from the right and Watt slotted home in the 6-yard box.  Then on the 58th minute, Kazia Walby hit a 40-yard pass into the path of Eaton.  A first-time strike from Eaton nestled in to the top left corner to restore the two goal advantage and secure the three points.

The Development team will now travel for the reverse fixture on Sunday 23rd February.
