Here is a rundown on how the York City Ladies teams got on over the weekend.
First Team
York City Ladies FA Women’s National League Division One North match against Chorley Women was postponed following a pitch inspection.
Development Team
The Devs welcomed North East Regional Premier League team Wakefield to YSJ in the Quarter Final of the league Cup.
From the kick off the Devs flew out of the traps dominating play. On 13 minutes, some excellent play on the left between Amy Kennedy and Emia Hendrickson Eastwood lead to a back post cross which Grace Sykes volleyed into the top right corner.
The goal spurred the Devs on even more and on 23 minutes their pressure paid dividends when Molly Loughton played the ball in from the left into Ruby Shaw who played a forward pass into the box. The recovery defender slid in to try and block but only succeeded in pushing the ball into her own net making it 2-0.
On 44 minutes Emia Hendrickson Eastwood picked the ball up from an Amy Kennedy pass on the half- way line. Beating both Wakefield defenders, Hendrickson Eastwood drove into the right side of the 18-yard box from where she unleashed a shot over the Wakefield goalkeeper into the top left corner making it 3-0 at the break.
After the break, Wakefield came out fast trying to impose themselves on the game and on 65 minutes a mix up in the Devs defence allowed Wakefield to pull one back making it 3-1. This reinvigorated Wakefield and they pressed higher and on 75 mins scored their second making it 3-2. The young Devs then began to start and impose their style of play again creating a few chances but we’re unable to convert them.
With about one minute of the 90 to go, Wakefield were awarded a penalty as the Devs tried to clear the ball from their penalty area. This was calmly scored making it 3-3 at full time and leading to extra time.
12 minutes into extra time Hendrickson Eastwood pounced on a misplaced Wakefield pass across their own 18-yard penalty area and placed it through the goalkeepers’ legs, to restore the Devs lead.
Halfway through the second period of extra time, Wakefield were awarded their second penalty of the day making it 4-4. As a result, the match went to penalties which saw Wakefield win 4-2 with Emia Hendrickson Eastwood and Karli Smith scoring for The Devs.
The Devs are on the road this weekend as they travel to Chesterfield FC Women.
U23’S
The U23’s also found themselves without a game on Sunday after their game against Redcar Town was forfeited by the opposition. They return to league action on Sunday as they travel to Skelton United Ladies.
