Here is a rundown on how the York City Ladies teams got on over the weekend.
First Team
Steph Turnbull’s side were without a game on Sunday after their match at York Sport Stadium was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. They are back in County Cup action on Sunday, with a trip to Middlesbrough U23’s.
Development Team
The Devs made the short trip into West Yorkshire to face Farsley Celtic, sitting third in the league. The Devs started brightly and on three minutes Amy Kennedy drove down the righthand side, pulling the ball back for Ruby Shaw to calmly finish for the opening goal.
Two minutes later, Ruby Watt’s pressing led to a poor pass which Watt then poked passed the Farsley keeper to double the Devs lead. On eight minutes Watt add her second of the day and the Devs third when she headed home a Grace Sykes cross. Whilst the Devs continued to dominate play Farsley did start to come more into the game and tried to create some chances. However, these were limited to a few long-range shots by the Devs defence and Midfield units.
The second half started in similar vein with Farsley trying to lift their tempo. This paid dividends when in the 53rd minute, Farsley pulled one back from a corner. This caused the Devs to up their tempo and began to reinsert their dominance. In the 65th minute, following some excellent work from Molly Loughton on the left and a terrific through ball from her to Ruby Watt, this allowed Watt to complete her hattrick with a calm finish from the edge of her penalty area.
Whilst the Devs continued to search for a fifth goal, Farsley stood resolute and to the end continued to try and find a way to breach the Devs defence.
The 4-1 win sees the Devs climb into second in the league. The Devs are also in County Cup action this Sunday when they travel to Guisborough Town Ladies.
U23’S
The U23’s were also without a game on Sunday, after their game at Redcar Athletic was also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The U23’s are on the road on Sunday as they travel to Catterick Village Roses Ladies.
