Stuart Maynard and Ollie Pearce have been nominated for the Enterprise National League’s January awards.
The gaffer, who picked up the Manager of the Month accolade in November, is once again in the running after guiding the Minstermen through an impressive January, which saw City complete the month unbeaten.
Pearce, who also claimed the Player of the Month award in November, is hoping to make it two for the season following another prolific month in front of goal.
We had to wait until Saturday 10 January for our first outing of the year, away at Sutton United. Despite falling behind, City showed their character to take all three points back to North Yorkshire. Hiram Boateng levelled before Pearce struck the winner early in the second half.
Next up was a tough home test against Southend United. The visitors led at the break, but City refused to give in and were rewarded late on, with Pearce grabbing an 87th-minute equaliser to secure a point.
A midweek trip to fellow promotion contenders Carlisle United followed, and the Minstermen made the perfect start as Josh Stones opened the scoring early. Goals from Alex Hunt and Alex Newby later sealed a commanding victory.
Three days later, we hosted Braintree Town, and won convincingly. Pearce kicked it all off inside five minutes with a clever flick, before Greg Olley doubled the lead. The league’s top scorer added another before half-time, as did Boateng.
Never in doubt, Pearce went on to make sure of the hat-trick, his fourth in red and blue so far.
January concluded with another away trip, this time at Solihull Moors. Goals from Hunt and Newby ensured another victory, setting a new club record of six consecutive league away wins, while also extending City’s run to three straight clean sheets.
