York City bounced back from midweek defeat to overcome a resilient Woking at the LNER.

York started brightly with a few chances inside the Woking half. Ollie Banks with a teasing ball into Josh Stones who placed a narrow header just wide of the target.

Stones had a similar chance three minutes later when he leaped onto an Ollie Pearce cross. The header wasn’t enough to test Will Jaaskelainen.

The first clear shot of the game came in the 10th minute. Ben Brookes found room to shoot inside the box. The shot had power but flew over the crossbar.

The Minstermen came close five minute later. Pearce sliding the ball through to Stones who raced through on goal only to see him shot kept out low by Jaaskelainen.

Woking hit back with a chance of their own. Ollie Sanderson getting on the end of a throw before his shot was superbly blocked by the leg of Morgan Williams.

30 minutes in and the deadlock was nearly broken once more. Ollie Pearce racing onto a long ball from Banks. The resulting lobbed shot from Pearce went wide of the mark.

Hiram Boateng rounded off the first half with a shot from the edge of the box which was held by the Woking keeper.

Woking’s first chance of the second half came from a powerful shot from Jake Forster-Caskey who fired an effort goalwards from the edge of the box. This shot flew high over the bar.

York were handed a penalty in the 74th minute when Jeff King was pushed down whilst on an advancing run in the box.

Ollie Pearce stepped up to slot away his 31st league goal of the campaign. Sending the ball down the middle of the goal.

Dan Batty nearly added a second just before time but his right-footed effort rolled just wide of the left-hand post.
