Match Preview | Gateshead (H) | Wednesday 1st January

We kick off 2025 at home to Gateshead on New Year’s Day, in front of a sold-out LNER Community Stadium (3pm kick off).

City will have had an eleven-day break, following a Boxing Day postponement away at Oldham Athletic, with heavy fog descending on Boundary Park that day.

The last time the Minstermen were in action was back here at the LNER Community Stadium four days before Christmas, taking on Southend United in a game which saw us emerge as 3-0 victors.

All three goals had come from second-half corners, with Dipo Akinyemi, Callum Howe, and David Ajiboye on the scoresheet.

Coming into this fixture, York are sitting in second behind Barnet, but with a game in hand. Gateshead are flying high too, just a point behind their hosts on Wednesday.

The Heed have accumulated an outstanding figure of 20 goals across their last four games in all competitions, with a tight 4-3 win over rivals Hartlepool the most recent.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE

As usual, on our first home game of the new year, we will hold an annual moment of silence prior to kick-off to remember former players, officials and loyal supporters of York City Football Club, who sadly passed away during the last 12 months.

The game has been announced as a SELL OUT, therefore tickets are no longer available to purchase.

Tickets are NO LONGER available to purchase in-person, over the phone, or online.

Please DO NOT attend tomorrow’s game without a ticket.

Supporters are advised to arrive at the stadium earlier than usual, with a bumper crowd in attendance.

BUS SERVICE CHANGES

Please note, the First York Park & Ride service #9, which usually departs from the city centre, serving York Station, will NOT be running on New Year’s Day. This means that bus travel to and from the stadium will be limited on the day.

The Y22 shuttle bus will STILL run, providing their regular matchday service.

Run by long-standing club partner York Pullman, the service will still operate between Stonebow and the LNER Community Stadium from two hours before kick-off and after the final whistle.

We advise supporters to make their way to the ground early to avoid any potential delays.
