Match Preview | Sutton United (H) | Saturday 18th January

After two weeks out of action, York City return to the LNER Community Stadium this Saturday as they host Sutton United (3pm kick off).

The Minstermen kicked off the year with a 1-0 win over Gateshead, before being knocked out of the Isuzu FA Trophy at Gainsborough Trinity by a single goal a few days later.

That was the last time City had a match, with a double postponement last week ruling out trips to Maidenhead and Rochdale.

Although we have dropped to second in the Vanarama National League table, midweek results went in our favour, and we now sit a point behind leaders Forest Green Rovers with two games in hand.

Our opponents this Saturday, Sutton, come off the back of a point won in midweek at home to Wealdstone, which leaves them in 13th place and without a win in their last six.

All three previous meetings between the two teams have finished 2-2, so City are still yet to secure a first-ever win over the U’s – a perfect opportunity awaits on home turf soon.

MATCH SPONSORS

York College & University Centre is our match sponsor on Saturday. Their position at the heart of the city’s education landscape can be traced back to 1827.

Now, almost two centuries on, they proudly offer the largest array of courses in the region, including 40 A Level subjects, more than 70 vocational and T Level courses and 30 apprenticeship programmes.

Synergy Cleaning (0800 152 2101) is our match ball sponsor this weekend. The company was established in 2009 and has since developed a reputation as a first-class supplier of service excellence.

We hope those associated with York College and Synergy Cleaning have a fantastic day with us at the LNER Community Stadium.

CHARITY PARTNER FOCUS FIXTURE

This weekend’s fixture is our dedicated focus fixture for charity partner York Mind.

They will have a team of York Mind staff, counsellors and volunteers, hosting a stall for you to come and ask any questions about their local services for you or for a mate, a family member or a maybe even a colleague or neighbour. They will also have a team of volunteers roaming around the ground collecting donations to support services such as their adult or young peoples counselling and drop-in service in York.

A member of the York Mind team will speak pre-match in hospitality as well as the half-time interview on the pitch. Our players will warm up in York Mind training gear before the game.

FOUNDATION FAN ZONE STAGE – SPONSORED BY JORVIK RADIO

Vagabond came together in 2023, when three 15-year-olds, decided to start something loud and different.

What began as jam sessions quickly turned into a band with a mission: to bring back the raw, unfiltered sound of punk rock. With influences ranging from classic punk legends to modern indie sounds, they have spent hours crafting original songs. They have played at places such as the York Vaults, The Fulford Arms and The Crescent and it gives them great pleasure to be asked to play The York Fan Zone again today.

After an amazing summer of busking festivals and gigs, Vagabond are working hard on new original songs to make their mark on the local music scene. This is just the beginning…….
