Match Preview | Aldershot Town (H) | Saturday 12th April

It’s back to the LNER Community Stadium for the first time in April this Saturday, as York City face Aldershot Town (3pm kick-off).

City couldn’t head into this clash in much better form, having won three on the bounce, scoring ten and conceding one across the recent period.

Last Saturday’s action away at AFC Fylde saw the Minstermen walk away with maximum points, courtesy of a dominant performance, backed up by goals from Ollie Pearce, Joe Felix, and Malachi Fagan-Walcott.

Results elsewhere in midweek confirmed our place in the top three with five games still to play.

Morale in the Aldershot camp will likely be sky-high, despite an injury-time sucker punch on Tuesday night at home to Boston United.

They scored late on to overcome rivals Woking last Saturday and pip them to a place in the Isuzu FA Trophy Final at Wembley, setting up the club’s first-ever visit to the iconic arched arena.

FOCUS FIXTURE

This weekend’s fixture is our dedicated focus fixture for Football Welcomes.

The Football Welcomes programme celebrates the contribution players with a refugee background make to the beautiful game, and the positive role football can play in bringing people together and creating more welcoming communities.

Refugee Action York (RAY) works with refugees, asylum seekers and migrants from within and around the City of York. They provide a safe meeting point where people can seek information and support, learn new skills and languages, and form lasting friendships. Through providing this support, they hope to empower individuals to assist them in rebuilding their lives.

20 of their service users have been able to enjoy attending a City match once a month throughout the season. This monthly trip has become a highlight for many of their service users, enabling them to experience live football and forget about the difficulties they may be facing. The beauty of football is that it’s a universal activity, and people who speak different languages can still understand what is happening. At the same time, by watching YCFC, RAY’s service users are starting to build a relationship with their adopted city via one of the most visible representatives of the city in the wider country.

The RAY Men’s Group were also thrilled to receive a visit from some of the YCFC players one evening, joining in and playing darts, pool, and video games with their service users.

HOSPITALITY

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson and legendary City striker John Byrne will be our special guests on Saturday.

Season ticket holders for hospitality have a fast-track lane, with exclusive priority to gain access to the LNER Lounge from 1pm!

LOST CHILD WRISTBANDS

From this Saturday onwards, we will have Lost Child wristbands available free of charge. Available from all programme sellers, Lego in the Library, and Club Shop, these disposable wristbands have plenty of space for your key information so you can be confident that your child will be safe in an emergency. We encourage anyone attending with children to pick one up at each home fixture and make it part of your match day routine.

SUPPORTERS TRUST GAZEBO

Ahead of Saturday’s clash between York City and Aldershot Town, members of the York City Supporters’ Trust Board will be in attendance and based at a gazebo near the East/South Stand turnstiles until 2:45pm. They’ll be there to meet supporters, hear your ideas and views, and share more about the Trust’s work from the recent 54-55 Celebration Dinner, their successful Fund That Minibus campaign to support our Youth Team, alongside their regular socials, fan representation and community campaigns. You can also pick up information on becoming a Trust member and collect your voting form for the Clubman of the Year award !
